Daniel R. Smith, CMI, Esq. is a Principal with Popp Hutcheson PLLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ryan Law, in Austin, Texas and a Principal in the Ryan LLC Austin Office. 

Throughout his career, Daniel has litigated a wide variety of disputes, focusing exclusively on property tax matters since 2015.  He has published several articles on property tax in Texas and is a frequent speaker at property tax conferences, including those held by the State Bar of Texas, the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), and the Council on State Taxation (COST).  A former Chair of the Property Tax Committee, he currently serves as a Council Member for the State Bar of Texas – Tax Section.

Daniel has extensive experience representing commercial properties of all types in valuation disputes with appraisal districts.  These include retail centers, hospitals, senior living facilities, and  office buildings.  With his broad litigation experience, Daniel offers a unique perspective on solving property tax problems.  Daniel’s peers have repeatedly recognized him as a “Super Lawyer” in business litigation.  He is also a Life Fellow with the Texas Bar Foundation.
