A seasoned litigation attorney and trusted legal advisor, Courtney brings over a decade of experience navigating complex disputes and delivering creative, results-driven solutions for clients across industries and jurisdictions.

Prior to serving as Senior Attorney at Ryan Law, Courtney represented businesses in employment and commercial litigation, including breach of contract, trade secret misappropriation, and trademark infringement matters.

A significant chapter of Courtney’s career has been devoted to building deep expertise in property tax and assessment. As Director at a property tax-focused litigation firm in Toronto, she counseled an extensive roster of large corporate clients across the retail, hospitality, office, and industrial sectors, devising sophisticated tax appeal strategies in collaboration with valuation experts. She represented clients in high-stakes disputes before administrative tribunals and appellate courts, and negotiated directly with assessment authorities and municipalities to secure favorable outcomes for both individual clients and client coalitions.

Prior to that, as Senior Director and In-House Counsel at a leading global commercial real estate services firm, she led a team of lawyers and paralegals delivering property tax advocacy services. There, she and her team represented clients in complex valuation disputes across Ontario.

Courtney serves as Officer and Co-Chair of the Amicus Committee for Women Lawyers On Guard, Inc. and on the D.C. Bar’s Innovations in Legal Practice Committee. She holds a B.A. from McGill University, a J.D. from Michigan State University and an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. She is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New York, and Ontario.
